Whether you're just taking a weekend getaway or embarking on a longer journey, I want to make sure my travels are stress-free. With a few simple steps and a handy checklist, I can make sure I don't forget anything important during my travels.
Take a few minutes to make a list of all the items you'll need on your trip. I like to start with the essentials things like clothes, toothbrush and toothpaste, and any medications I need to bring. Depending on your destination, either here in the US or abroad, you may need to add a few additional items like a passport or phone charger.
Be sure to plan and pack for the forecasted weather. I like to check the weather at least a few days in advance, so I can make sure I'm ready for whatever conditions I'll be facing. Include items like a light sweater and hat for a cold destination, and shorts and a sun hat if the weather looks warm.
Now that I have an idea of what I'm bringing, I like to start organizing my suitcase. I pack heaviest items like books and shoes in first, as these will take up the majority of the space. Then, I pack small items into smaller, tighter spaces like the sides or the corners. For quick access throughout the trip, I place important items like sunglasses, reading material, and cash in a small pouch on top.
To maximize the space in my luggage, I prefer to roll my clothes instead of folding. Rolling tightly helps reduce creases and fits more items into smaller spots. If items don't roll, such as sweaters and jackets, I fold them neatly so I don't end up with wrinkled clothes.
Once your suitcase is packed, it's time to make sure nothing is missing. I like to double check my packing list to make sure I've included everything from the essentials (medications, passport, etc.) to the fun items like snacks and entertainment. With a little extra effort and planning, I can be sure I don't leave anything important behind.
